Privacy policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026. This is a translation; the German version is legally binding.

In short: Mabel only sees your screen when you click the button. The screenshot and your questions are sent to our server and from there to the AI service Anthropic (Claude), so that you get an answer. We don't store screenshots, questions or answers. To count the free daily allowance, we store a random ID of your installation and a scrambled form of your IP address for about 30 days at most.

2. What happens when you click Mabel's button

Only your click gives the extension one-time access to the tab you have open. The following data is then sent to our server:

DataPurpose
A screenshot of the visible part of the current tab (reduced in size)So Mabel can see and explain the page
The page's title and web addressExplaining the page and checking for scam signs
Your questions and the previous answers in this conversationSo Mabel can answer follow-up questions
Your browser's languageSo Mabel answers in your language
A random installation ID (e.g. 3f2a…) created when you install the extensionCounting the free daily allowance
Your IP address (technically required for any connection)Connection, abuse prevention

Please note: the screenshot contains whatever is visible in the tab at that moment, for example an open email or an account balance. So only click the button when you want help with that page.

The extension does not read anything in the background, keeps no browsing history and has no permission to read or change websites.

3. Processing by Anthropic (Claude)

To create the answer, our server passes the screenshot, the page's title and address, your questions and the result of our automatic address check to the AI service Claude by Anthropic. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf. According to Anthropic, data sent through its programming interface (API) is not used to train its AI models and is deleted after a short time (currently 30 days at most). If a breach of its usage policies is suspected, Anthropic may keep data longer.

4. What we store and for how long

WhereWhatHow long
On your computer (in the extension)Installation ID, chosen text sizeUntil you remove the extension
On your computer (temporary)The latest screenshot and the current conversationUntil your next click or until you close the browser
Our database (Neon)Installation ID with the date and the number of clicks that dayDeleted after about 30 days
Our database (Neon)A scrambled checksum of your IP address with date and count. The checksum changes every day; the IP address can't be worked out from it.Deleted after about 30 days
Our serverScreenshot, questions and answersNot stored, only processed for the duration of the request

5. Automatic check of the web address

Our server checks whether the address only resembles a well-known brand name, and how old the domain is. For the age, our server asks the public registration service RDAP (rdap.org). Only the domain name is sent (e.g. example.com), no data about you. The request comes from our server, not from your computer.

6. Feedback and statistics

  • "Did this help?" When you click 👍 or 👎 below an answer, we store your rating with the installation ID, the safety rating and your language. Only for 👎 do we also store the page's domain (e.g. example.com, not the full address) and your optional comment, so we can find and fix Mabel's mistakes. No screenshot is stored.
  • After removing the extension, Chrome opens a short survey on our website. Your answer is stored without an installation ID, so it is anonymous.
  • Statistics: From the daily-allowance entries we calculate daily totals, e.g. how many installations were active. These totals contain no IDs and say nothing about individual people.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete feedback entries once we have evaluated them, at the latest after 12 months.

7. Hosting and this website

Our server and this website run on Vercel, the database on Neon. Both process data on our behalf. When you visit this website, and with every request from the extension, technical access data is created (e.g. IP address, time, requested address), which Vercel logs briefly for operation and security. This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising services.

8. Legal bases

  • Creating the answer you request by clicking: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the service you use).
  • Daily allowance, abuse prevention, secure operation and hosting: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is protecting the free service from abuse and uncontrolled costs.

9. Transfers to the USA

Anthropic, Vercel and Neon are based in the USA or process data there. Transfers are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Just write to hallo@bk-innosoft.de. Since we don't know your name, the date and time of your use help us find your data.

You can also complain to a data protection authority. The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

When you remove the extension, the data stored on your computer is deleted. The entries in our database disappear on their own after about 30 days.

11. Changes

If the extension changes, we will update this policy. The version published here applies.
