Help & support

Something isn't working, or you have a question? Most answers are below. If not, write to us – a real person reads every email.

Please tell us what you see on the screen and, if you can, which website you were on. Please don't send passwords or bank details.

Getting started

I can't find the green question mark

Click the puzzle icon at the top right of Chrome. Next to "Mabel Helps", click the pin. The green question mark now stays in view next to the address bar. You can also press Alt+H.

Nothing happens when I click the button

Mabel opens on the right-hand side of the Chrome window. If you don't see it, make the window a little wider or click the button once more. On Chrome's own pages (like the settings or the new-tab page) Mabel can't look at the screen – open a normal website and try again.

Mabel says she needs permission to look again

For your privacy, Mabel may only look at a page right after you click her button. Simply click the green question mark at the top right of Chrome again.

Using Mabel

How do I make the text bigger?

At the top of Mabel's panel, click A+ to make the text bigger and Aβˆ’ to make it smaller. Mabel remembers your choice.

How do I have the answer read aloud?

Click πŸ”Š Read aloud below the answer. Click Stop reading to stop. If you hear nothing, check that your computer's sound is on.

Mabel says I've used all my questions for today

Mabel Helps is free with 10 questions a day. The next day you can ask again.

Which language does Mabel speak?

English and German. Mabel follows the language Chrome is set to.

Safety

What do the coloured messages mean?

Green: the page looks normal. Yellow: be careful, for example because a payment or a password is involved. Red: this looks or sounds like a scam – don't pay, don't call any number, don't type in passwords.

I think Mabel got it wrong

Please click πŸ‘Ž No below the answer and tick "Mabel's safety rating was wrong". That tells us which website it was, so we can fix it. Mabel can make mistakes – if in doubt, ask someone you trust.

I already paid or gave out my details

Don't be embarrassed – it happens to many careful people. Call your bank straight away using the number on the back of your card, change the password you gave out, and tell someone you trust. If someone has remote access to your computer, switch it off and have it checked.

Privacy & removing

What does Mabel see?

Only the visible part of the page, and only when you click the button. The privacy policy explains everything in plain words.

How do I remove Mabel Helps?

Right-click the green question mark and choose Remove from Chrome. A short, anonymous survey may open – you're welcome to skip it.

Mabel Helps is made by BK Innosoft (Stephan Brdlik & Robert KΓΌbler GbR), Nuremberg, Germany.
